Vampires are firmly anchored in popular belief, stories of the blood-sucking forms of the night was handed down orally, until they received their mid-18 Century found in the literature. Meanwhile, they have gradually conquered a permanent place in literature and in media representation. However, not only with the Twilight series (2005-2008) by Stephenie Meyer economy experienced one of the vampire in the children's literature. In the field of literature for children can be found early on with the Little Vampire (1979) by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg prominent, blood-sucker ', with the popular stereotype of the villain to break the sucking child readers and the encounter with the stranger allow. The vampire is integrated into the children's literary texts and reinterpreted. It is clear that vampire stories for children include all ages, from Erstleserliteratur to novels for young readers. The objective of the interdisciplinary and also comparatively based oriented conference is to scientists from different disciplines (media, science, literature, education) together to bundle in this way the latest research for the vampire and new questions for a future children's literature research relevance to be developed. In research, the vampire and his function within the children's literature has so far been little worked up. Within children's literature meets the vampire different functions, which should be followed up during the symposium. The youth played the vampire a more sophisticated role. The combination of love stories with vampire stories will be taken up again and re-interpreted. Questions on the representation of adolescence and adolescence are of interest to trace certain developments within the vampire literature. There are, also continue the traditional links of vampire figures with adventure and detective stories, where the vampire turns out not always as such.

As part of the planned symposium will present research findings and presented the latest findings from different perspectives - even from a critical perspective - presented, for example:

  • The relationship of the vampire in the KJL in relation to the adult literature: How is the vampire in the KJL See depicted in the adult literature? Are there intersections?
  • Genreorientierte vampire representations (Detektiv-/Abenteuer-/Mädchen-/Jungenliteratur etc.)
  • Draft Adolescence: How is the vampire character? How is the man who befriends a vampire?
  • Representation of the elements of horror / comedy in the children's literary representations of vampire?
  • Vampire as a model / identity Donors
  • The development of the vampire in the Children's Literature (general and / or exemplary)
  • Literary adaptations (such as Darren Shan - The Midnight Circus, Twilight)
  • Relationship of the vampire myths KJL South Eastern Europe (affirmative or negating)
  • What are the cross-over phenomena it? (Vs. vampire. Ghosts, werewolves, witches ...)

On all these topics and issues outlined speakers and speakers for a lecture given at the symposium are sought, as well as for aspects not mentioned here, but it fit thematically into this framework. A publication of the contributions is planned.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 30 April 2010.
